Angus Gordon
Angus Gordon was born near St. Andrew, Province of Quebec, Canada, October 30th, 1836. He was one of a family of eleven children. He came to Henderson Prairie, Iowa in 1857, where he purchased his present farm which has ever since been his home.He was married to Nancy E. Hardin, July 29th, 1860. His wife died August 17th, 1901, while he passed away April 3rd, 1922. Ten children blessed their home, four of whom have passed to the life beyond --- James and Lizzie after they had homes and families of their own, Hattie and Cynthia in girlhood.
He is survived by Charles F., who sold his farm in Bruce, Wis., and came back to run the home farm and take care of his father in his six declining years; Ella Huffy and Fred of Postville; Kate Jeppson of Isabelle, S.D., and Grace Bellows of Pettibone, S. D. He also leaves twenty-two grandchildren, besides many neighbors to mourn his passing.
He was of Scotch Presbyterian parentage and found one of his joys in life in practicing the thrift and virtues of his ancestry. He found one of his greatest delights in seeing that his roadside fence, rows and fields were free from weeds, and that his work was neatly and cleanly done. He was a kind and loving husband and father, often looking after the needs of the home while his wife was caring for any of the neighbors who were in sickness or need. And he will be missed as the passing of the last of the first generation of the early settlers of Henderson Prairie.
The funeral was held from the Postville Community church last Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. A. Saathoff. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
