Rev. Clune, Former Local Priest, Passes
Was Active In Civic Affairs During Residence Here
Rev. John J. Clune, 62, former pastor of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in this city, passed away Monday evening in the hospital in Anamosa where he had been a patient since early in December.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at nine o'clock in the Catholic church in Coggon, where the deceased was the resident priest until he was taken ill. Burial will be in Key West cemetery at Dubuque.
Rev. Clune was located here from 1911 to 1923, beloved by all in this community where he was active in the Commercial Club and civic life. He was founder of the Farmers Institute which later became the Big-Four Fair and was the first president of the Big-Four Poultry Association, being himself a poultry fancier.
During the World War he was active in welfare drives and appeared as speaker on programs that had to do with raising funds for solder relief and war refuge welfare work.
Rev. Clune was born in Norwalk, Conn., January 11, 1879, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Louis Schutte of this city has charge of the funeral of Rev. Clune.
