Rites Held For Former Resident

Funeral services for Adolph Koevenig, Hill City, South Dakota, resident since 1927, were held Sunday, December 7 at 2:30 p.m. in the Hill City Congregational Church with the Rev. R. L. Gowan, Custer, officiating.

Mr. Koevenig died at his home December 3. He had been postmaster at Hill City for the past 24 years. Born in Postville, Iowa, August 3, 1897, Mr. Koevenig came to western South Dakota in 1917 as an employee of the Milwaukee Railroad. During World War I he enlisted in the Army and served during 1918. On April 1, 1925, he was married at Chicago, Illinois, to Nellie M. Mattoon. The couple moved to Hill City in 1927 and have made their home here since that time.

He was a member of the Tin City Lodge 112, AF & AM, and had been a past master for two years. A member of the Order of Eastern Star, Hill City 150, he served as past patron, for one year. He belonged to the American Legion, the Marion Fitzsimmons Post of Hill City; was an honorary member of the Hill City Fire Department, and was a member of the board of directors of the Southern Hills Sportsmen's Club.

Survivors include his widow, Hill City; one son, Eugene of Page, Arizona; his mother, Mrs. J. A. Koevenig, and one brother, Louis, both of Postville. One nephew, James Koevenig, Iowa City, also survives.

Burial was in the Hill City Cemetery.
