ELIZA DENNISE
Was born in Morgan County, Ohio, August 7, 1823. In 1839 she was united in marriage with Enoch Hardin. Ten children were born to this union, five girls and five boys, four of whom - Mrs. Rebecca Dixon, of Portland, Oregon; D.A. Hardin, of Osakis, Minn.; F.P Hardin of Sac City, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Hardin, of Postville, Iowa; - survive her. In 1854 she moved to Allamakee Co. with her husband and family and where she resided continuously until her death. Her husband preceded her to the spirit land March 4, 1898. She was member of the M.E. church of this city and died firm in the faith.
Two years ago this month the ills incident to advanced age caused Mrs. Hardin to give up housekeeping and accept a proffered home with her daughter, Mrs. Mary Anderson, in this city, where every care and attention that could in the least make mother's pain racked body feel more at ease and smooth her journey toward the tomb has been given her with unsparing hand. And on Wednesday morning, Sept. 21st, at 9:30 o'clock, the weary spirit of a kind wife and mother, a pioneer woman, a true friend and good neighbor took its flight.
There were perhaps few in this section who enjoyed a wider acquaintance than Mrs. Hardin, she being one of the early settlers of Post township, and not a few will in their hearts be sorry when they learn that "Granny's" gone, and the profusion of fragrant flowers from friends that today bedeck her casket and tomb are mute reminders her memory is not forgotten.
To the family, relatives and friends who mourn her loss goes out the deepest sympathy of all, and especially so to the daughter whose many months of ceaseless, uncomplaining care makes the loss to her most keen to bear.
The funeral was held from the M.E. church at 2:30 p.m. today, and was very largely attended, Rev. W.W. Robinson officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
