Alfred Kirkeberg, the son of Knute and Ellen Halverson Kirkeberg, was born on the family farm in Clayton county, May 10, 1886. He was baptized and confirmed at the Marion Lutheran Church, of which he was a lifetime member.
He spent most of his life farming, three years near Dupree, South Dakota; then in partnership with a brother-in-law, Gilbert Peterson in Highland and Marion townships; also with his brother, Henry, on the home farm. After retirement in 1953, he moved to Postville with his sister, Mary and brother, Henry. On December 22, the deceased suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was taken to the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, where he died on December 29, at the age of 79 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Clarence and one sister, Agnes (Mrs. Reuben Mork).
Mr. Kirkeberg is survived by one brother, Henry, of Postville; and six sisters, Mrs. Ingrid Peterson of Decorah; Mary Kirkeberg of Postville; Dina, Mrs. Max Hunsberger of Elgin; Anna, Mrs. Andrew Anderson of Sawyer, Michigan; Ruth, Mrs. Selmer Groth of Elgin; Mabel, Mrs. William Privoznik of Manchester; also many nieces and nephews.
