Another Lifelong resident Answers Death’s Call
May 9, 1945 (hand-dated on clipping)Mrs. Emil J. Schukei, 76, passed away Monday at her home in this city, from the effects of a stroke sustained over four years ago. During her long illness she bore her suffering with patience and fortitude and was tenderly cared for by her daughter Lydia.
Elizabeth Schukei was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Meier, early settlers of Make township, where her birth occurred on March 9, 1869, her entire life being spent in this vicinity.
On December 10, 1892, she was united in marriage with Emil J. Schukei. Here children were born to this union, who are left to mourn her passing. They are Lydia, at home, Clarence, Waterloo, and Capt. Leonard Schukei, serving in the Philippine war area. There are also four brothers and two sisters residing in this vicinity. She was preceded in death by her husband and son Sgt. Albert Schukei, who passed away in a hospital on September 18, 1918, while serving with the army air corps in France during World War I.
Mrs. Schukei was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star mother.
The remains will repose a Martin’s funeral home until Thursday afternoon when services will be held at Zion reformed church of which she became a member n February 13, 1885, and was one of the two remaining charter members. Burial too place in Oakland cemetery beside her husband and son Albert.
Among those from a distance in attendance at the services will be Mr. and Mrs. U. B. Meiners, New Albin; Mr. and Mrs. John Seeling, La Crosse, and Mr. and Mrs. H. Meiners of Caledonia.
------------Mrs. Emil Schukei Laid to Rest Thursday
May 14, 1945 (hand-dated on clipping)Funeral services for Mrs. Emil Schukei, 76, whose death occurred on May 7, were held Thursday at Zion Reformed church conducted by the pastor, Rev. F E. Stucki. Members of the American Legion and Auxiliary attended in a body honoring their gold Star Mother. A profusion of beautiful flowers banked the casket.
Burial took place in the family log in Oakland cemetery, the following serving as pallbearers: Frank Dunning, Frank Lee, Frank Teeling, Herman Peterson, Fred Hausman, and Elmer F. Pieper.
From a scrapbook of Ella, Mrs. William Krumme, continued by her son, Milton Krumme. All articles were neatly clipped so I do not know what paper they were from.
