Clarice Ione Opfer, 75, of Waukon died Friday, July 27 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30 at Zalmona Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Lynn Groe officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She was born Nov. 22, 1914 in Franklin Township, Winneshiek County, to Benhart and Nellie Berg Geving. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1934, and Feb. 22, 1939 she and Martin "Mike" Opfer were married at the Zalmona Presbyterian parsonage. They farmed in Union Prairie Township until moving to Waukon in 1968. She had worked at the S & D Cafe after they moved to Waukon and was a member of the Zalmona church.
Surviving are a son Ronald of Waukon, a daughter Mrs. Craig (Marilyn) Newhouse of Decorah, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died Nov. 26, 1971.
Casket bearers were Lloyd, Wessly and Joe Berg, Ken Kirkeby, Sherman and Burton Oyen, and Ralph Osterholz.
