Obituary for Kathryn Mullarkey Brennan from the May 5, 1937 edition of the Allamakee Journal newspaper reads:

Mrs. James Brennan Dies After a Long Period of Illness
Popular Lansing Woman Called to her Eternal Reward Monday

Although not entirely unexpected, relatives and friends were shocked Monday non on receipt of a message from Madison, Wis., announcing the death of Mrs. James Brennan at the General Hospital there, where she had been taken Tuesday of last week. Death was the result of a complication of diseases, and she had been in poor health for a long time. Everything possible that medical science and loving care could possible do was attempted to affect a cure, but all to no avail.

Deceased’s maiden name was Kathryn Mullarkey and she was born in Lafayette township March 19, 1897. After her early education at home she graduated from St Vincent’s Academy, Dubuque. On June 15, 1926, in Wexford, she was married to James F. Brennan, who survives her with two children, Marie and Ralph. Also left to mourn are her mother, Mrs. B. J. Mullarkey, one sister, Loretta, and four brother, Ben, Mike J., John and Joseph.; besides a host of other relatives and friends. Her father died five years ago, and two sisters, Vernie and Mari, (Mrs. Mike Corocoran) also preceded her in death.

The old saying “Death Loves a Shining Mark” was truly exemplified in the passing of this beautiful young Christian wife and mother. With everything to life for – loving husband and children, and recently moving into their fine new home, which was her pride and joy – it seems sad indeed that she was called from all at so young an age. Inscrutable are the ways of Divine Providence, and the bereaved ones can only seek consolation in the teaching of Mother Church, to which deceased was ever faithful and died fortified by all its solemn rites. The loss of wife and mother in indeed a blow to home and family – one that can scarcely be realized by those that have not been called upon to bear it – and our sincerest sympathy is tendered to Mr. Brennan and his motherless children.

While, of course, her loss to family and home is greatest – and can never be overcome – she will also be missed and mourned by a wide circle of friends, among the younger married folks especially. She was ever a kind neighbor, ready to help at any and all times; a friend who would do anything possible to promote the welfare, happiness or comfort of another; and charitable to a fault – seeing only good in her friends and forgetting their shortcomings. It can be truthfully said that she will be long remembered for her good deeds and her memory ever cherished.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at Wexford church, where she was baptized and which she loved so well. The pastor, Rev. Father D. O’Sullivan, will sing the Requiem Mass and officiate at the graveside; where she will be tenderly laid to rest beside her loved ones gone before.

Casket bearers will be: Cyril Murphy, Frank Ryan, Edward Benz, George Kaufman, Sherman Hart and Joe Dunlevy.

Lansing- Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Wexford Church for Mrs. James Brennan, 39, who died Monday at a Madison, Wis., hospital. Mrs. Brennan has been ill with heart trouble for several months.

As Katherine Mullarkey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Mullarkey, she was born at Wexford on March 19, 1896. She attended the rural schools and completed her education at St. Vincent's Academy at Dubuque. She was married to James Brennan on June 15, 1926. They were the parents of two children, Ralph and Marie, who survive, with their father. She is also survived by her mother; a sister, Loretta, and four brothers, John, Joseph, Ben, and Michael, all of Wexford.

Mrs. Brennan was a member of the Catholic Women's League of the Lansing parish.
