Cornelius G. Troendle

Cornelius G. “Nig” Troendle, 96, of Lansing died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing following a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday, September 21 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, both in Lansing.

Cornelius was born April 8, 1913 to George and Frances (Rettinger) Troendle in Lansing. He married Lucille Bechtel May 26, 1942 in Lansing in a double wedding ceremony with his brother Richard and sister-in-law Gladys. They farmed in the Lansing area, and Cornelius enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always loved kids and was a wonderful grandfather. He and Lucille lived on their farm in Lansing until moving to Waterloo to be closer to their daughter Becky in 2000. They returned to Lansing in 2005 and lived at Thornton Manor.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; two children, Becky Ann (Gerald) Reppe of Waterloo and Roger (Phyllis) Troendle of Verona, WI; two grandchildren, Corey Lee (Nicole) Reppe of Holmen, WI and Christopher Paul (Emily) Reppe of Waukee; three great-grandchildren, Zak and Autumn Reppe and Christian James Reppe; and three sisters-in-law, Minnie (Ted) Troendle, Gladys (Richard) Troendle, and Rita (Carl) Troendle, all of Lansing.

Cornelius was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl, Harold, Richard, Silas and Ted; and his sisters, Theresa (John) Drake, Anna (Bud) Mathis and Louise (Hugh) Sweeney.
