Death of Henry Haas
Henry Haas, lifelong resident of Allamakee county, died early Friday morning at the University Hospital in Iowa City, where he had been a patient for a couple of days. He had been in ill health for several years past of late suffered a great deal.
He was born on the old homestead in French Creek township July 12, 1871, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haas, early settler of that vicinity In 1898 he was married at St. Mary’s church, Lycurgus, to Miss Elizabeth Donovan, who survives him, and they resided on a farm north of Lycurgus until a number of years ago, when they retired and moved to this city.
For some years Mr. Haas was employed at a local produce house. The remains reposed at Martin Bros. funeral parlors from where the funeral services were held Monday morning to St. Patrick’s church. A Requiem Mass was celebrated by the pastor, the Rev. Ernest J. McDonald, who also preached an appropriated sermon. Burial was made in the family lot in St. Mary’s cemetery, Lycurgus, where an infant son was buried years ago. Prayers were offered by the assistant pastor, Rev. Claude Norton. Casket bearers were Mike Devitt, Thomas Deviney, Edward Haas, Charles Regan, P.J. Mahoney and Andrew Bresnahan.
Out of town relative in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Donovan, Rochester; David Donovan and son, St. Paul; Mrs. Wm. Donovan, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rauch of Jackson Junction and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scholtes, Wilmont, Minn., and latter a sister of deceased. An only brother, Charles J. Haas resides at Medford, Oregon.
