Irene I. Steiber
Irene I. Steiber, 99, of Lansing died Tuesday June 16, 2009 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing following a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday, June 22 at the United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Lansing.
Irene is survived by three children, Ken (Judy) Steiber of Lansing, and Mona (Ray) Shelton and Sharon Decker, both of Waukon; 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 37 great-great-grandchildren.
Irene was born February 11, 1910 at Churchtown to Benjamin and Anna (Engelhorn) Decker. She married Donald Steiber May 28, 1931 in Lansing. They farmed in the Wexford area until 1959. In 1960 they moved to Lansing and Irene worked for the Lansing Button Factory in the plant and later did work for them in her home. She was still doing work for them up to the age of 99. She loved to go for rides, watching parades, and did much embroidery for many people.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, June 28, 1972; two daughters, Beverly Grady and Ruth Russell; sons-in-law, Daniel Grady, Delbert Russell, and Robert Decker; grandchild Dawn Troendle; great-grandchildren Shawn Haberichter and Jadann Marie Hill; great-great-grandchild Dane Schnitzler; and two sisters, Beneta Bechtel and Esther Marti.
