Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church in Lansing for Mrs. Kate Cooper with the Reverend J Leslie Leonard officating and saying the final prayers at the gravside in Oak Hill Cemetery where interment was made.
The former Kate Horne was born December 14th 1876 in Lansing, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Levi Horne and was the last surviving member oof a family of 6 children of pioneer settlers. She was united in marriage to Stewart Cooper on August 4th 1903 in Savanna Ill. and he preceded her in death in 1942.
Survivors include a daughter Frances, Mrs. leland Richie, and sons Wilson Cooper and james Thorston of Lansing and Frank Wendt, Chicago Ill. Three stepsons, Arthur Cooper of Rolette George of Los Angeles, CA, and Stewart of Souix City. Three sons preceded her, Charles Cooper and Roy Thorsten in 1956, and an infant.
Other survivors include 7 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
Deceased was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, and a charter menber of the American Legion Auciliary and in earlier years was an active worker in both.
Honorary pall bearers from the Auxiliary were mesdames Ben Irons, August Meyer, Edward Heyer, Leo Kreiger, Julia Stone, and Miss Joanne Kehr. Active casket bearers were grandsons John and Robert Thorston, Leland Richie, Harry Levondoskie, Ray Hawes and Steve Belich.
Mrs. Cooper was a mother devoted to her home and family, a kind neighbor ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of need or sorrow.
Special music at the service was provided by Miss Mary Halverson who accompanied soloist George Ashcom. The Burke funeral chapel was in charge of arrangements.
