Eliza Kavaney 1853-1944

Mrs. Eliza Kavaney, 91, died at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the St. Vincents Home where she had been a resident since Jan. 2, 1942.

Infirmities of old age were said to have been the cause of her death. She had lived with her daughter, Mrs. J.J. Dehne, 423 Second St. for several years and had been a patient at a local hospital for some time before going to St. Vincent's home.

She leaves three children, 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grand-children. The body is at the Calnan funeral home.

Born Apr. 24, 1853, in Allamakee county, Ia., Eliza O'Neill was married July 11, 1874, in Lansing Ridge, to Frank P. Kavaney. He preceded her in death in 1921. Nine children were born to them, three of whom are living. Besides Mrs. Dehne, she leaves, John Kavaney, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. William L. Holloway of San Mateo, Calif. The grandchildren in Bismarck are mrs. V.J. Cooney, 423 Second St.; Mrs. S.J. Hegedus, 419 Fifteenth St.; and Mrs. L.M. Hanson, 113 Mandan St. A grandson, Dr. J.E. Dehne, now is in the armed forces and serving in England. Other grandsons here are Howard, 931 Ninth St., Jack, 918 Ninth St., who is in the armed forces, but now is home on leave, and Vincent, 1003 Tenth St.

Mrs. Kavaney came with her husband to the Dakota Territory in 1880. They later moved to Howard, S.D., where Mrs. Kavaney resided until three years ago. She has been in Bismarck since that time.

Funeral services have not been completed. Burial will be made at Howard, S.D., beside the grave of her husband.
