Alba M. Kudart, 91, of Waukon, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home.
Alba Marie Spores was born September 4, 1913, in the Village Creek area of rural Lansing, Iowa, the daughter of James William and Martha Ann (Davis) Spores. As an infant, she moved with her family in a covered wagon from Village Creek to Dorchester, where she attended rural schools.
On October 28, 1933, Alba married Earl LeRoy Britain in Waukon. Earl died in 1962.
On April 24, 1967, she married August Kudart in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Alba had several occupations during her working life, including a couple of different factory jobs and helping her first husband Earl drive truck, but she concentrated mostly on being a mother and homemaker. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She has been a resident at Northgate Care Center since 2003.
Alba enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing, hunting mushrooms, and working in her gardens. She also liked to bowl and sew, making several quilts for different family members.
Survivors include three children, Darlene Schultz of Mesa, Ariz., Roger (Donna) Britain of Siren, Wis., and LeRoy (Linda) Britain of Brook Park, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Luain Spores of Decorah, Loretta Spores of New Albin, and Lorraine Britain of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Earl and August; three daughters, Cheryl Britain, Beverly Frana, and Donna Cain; a great-grandson, Matthew; seven brothers, Harold, Roy, Glen, Spencer, Jimmy, Alfred, and Donald Spores; and four sisters, Cora Spores, Blanche Schleicher, Lillian Knickerbocker, and Audrey Knight.
Casketbearers are Gary Knickerbocker, Troy Britain, Tim Britain, Les Frana, Lonnie Frana, and Dennis Cain.
