Henry Marti Passes Away Sunday, Dec. 3

Pneumonia Cause of Death to Well Known Resident of CountyMr. Henry Marti, son of the late Jacob and Kathryn Marti passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 3 at 8 o’clock at his home in Waukon, Ia., at the age of 76 years, two months and ten days. The cause of his death being pneumonia, altho he had been lingering with a heart ailment for over a year.
The deceased was born in Allamakee county on Sept. 23, 1863. He received his education in the rural schools of the county. He grew to manhood on the home farm, and followed the pursuit of farming until his retirement five years ago, except for two years when he operated a restaurant in Lemars, Ia.
He was united in marriage to Emma Roth March 23, 1893, To their union nine children were born: Clara, Mrs. Herman Kerndt; Salma, Mrs. Herbert Hartong; Walter, Elsie, Mrs. Arthur Buntrock of Calmer, Ia.; Henry and Albert of Postville; Willard of Church, Mildred, Mrs. Bert Skeldan of Minneapolis, Minn. One son, Roy, preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1939.
Mr. Marti was an earnest, faithful and sincere Christian, a member of Congregational church of Church, Ia., which body he joined in his young manhood on his profession of faith in Christ, and for many years served as trustee and secretary and treasurer. He was also a member of the Woodman Lodge for almost forty years, and was a board of the Calhoun Creamery Co.
He was a kind , generous, and loving husbands and father, and will be missed not only by his immediate family, but by his many friends and relatives as well.
He leaves to mourn his demise his widow, Mrs. Henry Marti, eight children, and twelve grandchildren; also a brother, George Marti of Lansing; two half - brothers, Jacob of Mason City, and Philip of Postville, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Petrehn of Austin, Minn., beside a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral services will be held this Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 from the house and 2 o’clock at the Congregational church with Reverend Henry Marks officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Lansing Ridge cemetery with the following lifelong friends carrying the remains to their final resting place.: Sam Decker, Joseph Bechtel, John W. Wendel, Joe Martin, James O’Donnell and Tade Gruber
The Journal joins the large number of acquaintances in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones left to mourn his passing.
Relatives from a distance who were present are William Zumhoff, Dubuque, Mrs. Benz of Minneapolis, Ervin and Clinton Marti from Kasson, Minn, and Mrs. William Gaine of Brownsville.

Waukon Resident Dies at Age 76 from Pneumonia and Heart Disease

For the second time within a month death has come to the Henry Marti home in Waukon. On November 14th their son Roy passed away, and Sunday evening the father, Henry Marti, was taken by death. He had been in falling health the past two years from a heart ailment but the cause of death was pneumonia, He was 76 years oldHenry Marti was born September 23, 1863k on the old homestead in Makee township. His parents were Jacob and Katherine Marti. He received his education in the rural schools. On March 23, 1893, he married Miss Emma Roth, at the home of the bride’s parents near Church. Following their marriage they lived in Lemars for three years. They returned to this county and made their home on the Marti farm, near Church until five years ago, when they retired from farm life, and came to Waukon to reside, purchased the former William Muth home. This union was blessed by nine children, all of whom survive except their son Roy
He leaves to mourn his death his wife,, and eight children, Mrs. Herman Kerndt of Lycurgus, Mrs. Herbert Hartong and Walter of Church, Mrs. Art Buntrock of Calmar, Harry and Albert of near Rossville, Willard the buttermaker at Church, and Mrs. Herbert Skelton of Minneapolis.
One brother George Marti of near Lansing, two half-brothers, Jacob Marti of Mason City and Philip Marti of Postville, and one half sister Mrs. Anna Petrehn of Austin, Minnesota, also survive.
Mr. Marti was active in school and church work, and served as a director of the Calhoun Creanery of Church. He was a member of the Congregational church at Church town.
Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Congregational church, with the Reverend Henry Marks of Lansing officiating, and internment was in the Lansing Ridge Cemetery.
