Arthur Cornelius Nelson

Arthur C. Nelson, 81, of Waukon died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 14 at Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Burial with graveside military rites was in Waterville Lutheran Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur Cornelius Nelson was born November 4, 1927 on the rural Waterville farm of his parents, Otto Cornelius and Martha Elizabeth (Asleson) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Waterville Lutheran Church and attended the Waterville School. Arthur served as a cook in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He farmed in rural Waterville for over 50 years with his brother, Orville. Arthur's dog Perk was at his side all the time. Arthur greatly enjoyed the time he spent with Tadd Faught and Art Cornelius. He also enjoyed having hunters hunt on his farm. He was a member of the Waterville Lutheran Church and the Harpers Ferry VFW.

Survivors include 2 brothers, Kenneth (Lee) of Clinton and Howard (Irene) of Camanche; four sisters, Alvina Sickels of Waukon, and Marjorie Nelson, Norma McFadden, and Olive (Merlin) Marohn, all of La Crosse, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Marcella; and a brother, Orville.

Honorary casketbearers were Wayne Knudtson, Kevin Nelson, Rod Sickels, and Glen and Norman Thorsen. Casketbearers were Art Cornelius, Tadd Faught, Rich and Bob Sickels, Keith Nelson and Stacy French.
