Funeral Services for Esther Linderbaum, 91, of Ossian, who died Sunday April 5, 2009 at her home, were held Wednesday, April 8, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery, both in Ossian.
Esther Deeny was born March 30, 1918 at Lycurgus, the daughter of Charles Francis and Sarah (McCormick) Deeny. When she was 13 years old the family moved to Waukon. She attended two years of high school at St. Patrick's School, and finished the last two years at St. Joseph's School at Elkader in 1935. She performed housekeeping for the Presentation Sisters.
She was united in marriage to Walter Linderbaum of Castalia July 23, 1937 by the Rev. E.J. McDonald of St. Patrick's Church in Waukon. They established their home in Ossian and raised their family. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church and a member of the Rosary Society of which she was president in 1959. She worked for many church activities until she was no longer able.
Esther liked to cook and bake, did some babysitting, and was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended all of her family events.
She is survived by three daughters and one son, Janet Linderbaum of LaCrosse, WI, Jerry (Linda) Linderbaum of Solon, Mary Ellen (Bruce) Christopher of Decorah, and Debby (Mike) Scheidel of Ossian; nine grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Linderbaum, Amanda (Adam) Stahle, Beth (Casey) DeVries, Jill (Mike) Kalvig, Charles Christopher, Jenni Christopher, Heather (T.J.) Tigges, Kari (Kory) Hageman, and Katie (Casey) Wiltgen; nine great-grandchildren, Logan and Tyler Linderbaum, Miriah and Shira Hageman, Brekin and Briar Tigges, Mia and Piper Stahle, and Christopher Kalvig; two sisters-in-law, Marie Linderbaum and Marian Linderbaum; one brother-in-law, Lawrence (Evelyn) Linderbaum; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Karen, in 1944; her husband, Walter, in 1985; three sisters, Lillian (Louis) Etteldorf, Gertrude (Tom) Zobeck, and Delores (Clair) Reilly; and three brothers, Harold (Jeannette) Deeny, Joseph (Irene) Deeny and Delbert Deeny.
