James J. Ryan Buried Friday

A mass of requiem was offered at St. Patrick’s church Monday morning at 10:30 for James J Ryan, a long time resident of Allamakee county who died at a Boone hospital Friday July 22. His death followed a cerebral hemorrhage and he had been ill since December 1954.

James Ryan was born on the West Ridge, Nov 2, 1867 and was the son of James and Johanna Ryan of Frankville. He received his education in the Allamakee county schools and Oct. 1895 was married at Waukon to Martha Brandt of Frankville. They resided on a farm in Union Prairie township for many years and later moved into Waukon. They were the parents of three children, Loretta Ryan of Webster City, (Ella Mae) Mrs. T. D. Clark of Knoxville, and a son, James W. Ryan of Jewell, who survive. His wife died December 26, 1949. Also surviving are Mary Ryan, Lizzie and Tom of Frankville, Mrs. Kate Drew, Waukon and Sister Mary Mariam, a sister of the Mercy order in Cedar Rapids, who are all brothers and sisters. Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The Reverend John McDonald officiated at the funeral and burial was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Pallbearers were, James Drew, Leonard Baxter, James Baxter, Myles Roach, Charles Regan and John Ryan. Martin funeral directors were in charge of the funeral.
