Charles Peterson
Funeral services for Charles McConnell "Mick" Peterson were held Saturday, July 11, 1987, 2 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church, Wilton. Rev. Telford Dindinger officiated.
He was born September 4, 1907 in Centuria, WI, the first child of A. L. and Edna Peterson.
He was raised and attended school in Postville and graduated from Postville High School. He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
In 1934 he married Phyllis Kohler. The couple had 3 children.
After making their home in Waterloo and Postville, the family moved to Wilton in 1948 where he worked for Eastern Iowa Light and Power until 1972 when he retired as a Load Supervisor. He then became manager of the Employees Credit Union.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Wilton, and had served as a teacher, deacon and as a member of the session. He was active and involved in the Masonic Lodge and a member of Scottish Rite Consistory, KAABA Shrine and Purity Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He served several years as Secretary of the Wilton Lodge.
For many years, he was active in local politics, serving on various committees and as a delegate to local and state conventions. He served a term as Mayor of Wilton.
He was co-founder of the First Boy Scout Troop in Wilton, served many years as a Justice of the Peace, was a long-term member of the Wilton Volunteer Fire Department, was active in Wilton Chamber of Commerce functions, and for many years, at Christmas time, was Wilton's favorite Santa Claus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his parents, a brother, Don and a sister, Aileen.
He is survived by his children, Aileen Patricia, Ft. Collins, CO, Charles K., Meridian, ID and Philip J., Garner, IA; 3 brothers, Richard, Cedar Rapids, Duane, Niles, IL and Roland, Yankton, SD; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
