Walter Kubik

Walter Joseph Kubik, age 78, of Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, January 16 at St. Ann's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, with Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception, Wexford Cemetery. Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family.

Walter was born November 5, 1930 in Protivin, the son of Paul and Frances (Kolar) Kubik. He completed 13 years of formal education before working in the refrigeration industry. He lived in Protivin, Decorah and Harpers Ferry during his lifetime, marrying Kathleen Kay Kohlmeyer at St. Ann's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry.

Walter was a member of St. Ann's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and racing.

Survivors include his children, Paula Cheever of Jackson, MO, Kim (Rob) Gossman of Decorah, Karla (Todd) Farland of Forest City, Steven (Penni) Kubik of Postville, Michael (Melinda) Kubik of Charles City, and Julie (Dustin Kennedy) Platten of LaCrosse, WI; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernyce Sheetz of New Hartford.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one child, Terry Kubik; and four siblings, Irene (Arnold) Faldet, Pauline (Joy) Hovden, Myrtle (George) Olson, and George (Jenny) Kubik.
