Death of Cornelius Cronin

11 Apr 1829-27 Dec 1916

Cornelius Cronin, one of the aged residents of this city, passed away at his home southwest of the Catholic Church last Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness. County Limerick, Ireland, was his birthplace and he was 87 years old. He is survived by his wife and a grown up family of five daughters and four sons. A daughter, Elizabeth, a member of the faculty of the State University at Iowa City, and a son, James, were with him at the time of death. The rest of the family live at different points on the Pacific coast and only one, Mrs. S. Clifford, was able to be here for the funeral. The deceased was one of the early settlers in this section, coming to Waukon in 1856. In the early days he lived on the farm on Pea Ridge, Union Prairie township, now occupied by Wm. F. Collins. In 1881 he moved with his family to Cherokee County. Fourteen years ago he came back to Waukon, which has since been his home. The funeral was held Friday forenoon. After requiem mass in St.Patrick's Church burial took place in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
