Waukon Lady is Called by Death
MRS. CHARLES BARTHELL IS DEAD AFTER FIVE WEEKS ILLNESS WITH FLU
Mrs. Charles Barthell, who has been in ill health several months with dropsy and flu, passed away at midnight (S)unday at her home. She was 66 years old.
Mrs. Barthell, nee Mary Gunhild Engrav, was born January 22, 1870, on Round Prairie, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Halver Engrav. She received her education in the rural schools of the county. On April 14, 1891, she married Charles Barthell at the Glenwood church. For some years they made their home on a farm in Union Prairie township, later moving to Waukon. Four children were born to this union, all of whom are living.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Leonard Bulman and Mrs. Eilert Bakkum of Center township, Mrs. Elmer Johnson of Waukon, and one son, Grant Barthell of Burbank, California.
She also leaves to mourn her death two sisters, Mrs. Ole Loven of Winneshiek and Mrs. G. O. Hanson of Minot, North Dakota, and three brothers Hohn and Helmer Engrav of Rushford, Minnesota and Ole Engrav of Peterson, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the Elmer Johnson and at 2:00 o’clock at the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Reverend L. L. Bond. Internment will be in Oakland cemetery.
