HENRY SCHARRINGHAUSEN

For three long years, Mr. Henry W. Scharringhausen, with indomitable courage has kept up a brave heart and fairly fought for his health. After spending that time confined to his home, more or less of an invalid, he apparently won the battle and no one was ever happier in being able to do a man's work than Mr. Scharringhausen, when in January he was again able to join the "toilers." As every increasing day brot renewed health, his friends heard again that cheery voice of old. But by one of those sad but unexplainable ways of fate, a cold was contracted, which developed into pneumonia and his body not yet as strong as it might have been, lacked the courage of the man within and he died at 2 o'clock Sunday morning, March 2, aged 67 years, 2 months, 7 days. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran church, Rev. Noack officiating Interment was in the St. Peter's cemetery.
Henry Scharringhausen was born in Waukon, Iowa, Dec. 25, 1861. His parents moved to Elk Grove when he was one year old, where he spent his boyhood days. March. 25, 1877 he was confirmed in the Schaumburg church by Pastor Schmidt. June 2, 1887 he married Miss Louise Gathmann. To them were born three children. Since 1898 this family has lived happily at Arlington Heights, until July 26, 1914 when the angel Death made his first call in this home taking with him Alvin, the son, who was a promising young man. About three years ago, Mr. Scharringhausen begun to be troubled with asthma. Two visits to the city hospital were made for treatment. At these times he was able to be up and around, again he was confined to his bed. He never complained except to express regret over the care he was to his brave wife who gave him every attention in her power. Two months ago his health having improved considerably, he secured a position m the city and was happier than he had been for years. Feb. 22 he contracted a cold, which developed into pneumonia and caused his death.
Deceased was a kind father, a loving husband and a man who highly praised the friendship of his friends. His illness of the past three years only seemed to tie a stronger bond between the members of the family and its calling is all the harder to bear. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Meta Helm and Miss Delia, a son-in-law, Howard Helm, 2 grandchildren, Dorothy and Lewis, 2 bothers, Ed of Arlington Heights and Herman of Mt. Prospect, four sisters, Mrs. Louis Magers, Mrs. Theodore Kreft and Mrs. Herman Nebel, of Arlington Heights and Mrs. Fred Nebel, of Schaumburg.
