MRS. LOUISA SADLER, 64, MEETS ACCIDENTAL DEATH
Top Step of Cellar Steps Gave Away and Caused Fatal FallMrs. Louisa Sadler, life long resident of the New Galena and English Bench vicinities, passed away at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning as a result of injuries received in a fall less than half an hour before. She was ascending the cellar stairway in her farm home carrying a small bag of barley; the top step gave away and she fell backwards striking her head against a heavy post. Her son John Sadler, was in the house at the time and rushed to the cellar when he heard his mother fall. Dr. C.W. Rominger was summoned but Mrs. Sadler died before he arrived. County Coroner Charles Boyden was then called who gave a report of accidental death. The deceased was found to have sustained a broken neck and shoulder and severe head injuries.
Louisa Ashbacher, the victim’s maiden name, was born in French Creek township 64 years ago. She grew to womanhood there and 40 years ago was married to John Sadler. After the death of her husband, she operated the English Bench for some time and later purchased a 266 acre farm near the Iowa river, which was previously owned by James Danaher. Mrs. Sadler was known to be a very capable woman, and supervised the operation of her farm in an intelligent and business like manner.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Fred Waymiller of near New Albin; one son, John at home; two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held in the Mt. Hope Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon, with burial in the cemetery nearby.
