PARALYTIC STROKE FATAL TO UNION CITY TOWNSHIP MAN AT AGE OF SEVENTY-ONE
James Beardmore, well known resident of Union City township, passed away Saturday, February 17th at the home of John and Daisy Beardmore. He had been in failing health the last year and a half as the result of a paralytic stroke.
James Harvey Beardmore was born January 3, 1896, in Union City township; a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Beardmore. He received his education in the rural schools. On April 7, 1903, he was married to Louisa Sadler at Lansing, and they made their home on their farm in Union City township. In 1928 he was stricken with a paralytic stroke, and because of his impaired health he disposed of his farm to his nephews, John and Earl Beardmore. He continued to live on the homestead until 1938, when he suffered another stroke, after which he made his home with his nephew and niece, John and Daisy Beardmore.
Mr. Beardmore served as secretary for the Clear Creek school or 25 years, and took an active interest in community affairs. He is survived by 18 nephews and four nieces.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Mt. Hope church with the Reverend C.M. Haas officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Hope cemetery.
The casket bearers were six nephews, Judge T. A. Beardmore, Earl Beardmore, William E. Beardmore, Eben and Art Beardmore, and Urban Sadler.
Out of town relatives who attended the services were Judge T. A. Beardmore of Charles City, Clifford Sadler of Lansing, William E. Beardmore and son Melvin and Arvid Sadler of Caledonia, Mr. and Mrs. Urban Sadler of New Albin, and Mr.and Mrs. R. E. Roberts of Waukon.
