James "Jim" Ruckhaber
James "Jim" Ruckhaber passed away Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and two days. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, September 6 at the Forest Mills United Methodist Church, rural Postville, with the Reverend Richard A. Iles officiating.
Pastor Verdon Swenson gave the Eulogy. Special music was provided by Priscilla Miene, organist and Roger Svebakken, soloist. Burial will take place at a later date. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
James "Jim" Cleon Ruckhaber was born October 29, 1918 on a farm east of Waukon to Frederick William and Jesse Victoria (May) Ruckhaber. He attended the rural schools near his home. He lived in the area, including Harpers Ferry, a farm located at Effigy Mounds, and the Monona and Luana areas. He farmed, was a cheese maker, a livestock buyer at Garnavillo, Farmersburg, and Luana, and a Horse Show Judge.
October 28, 1961 Jim was married to Sandy Kunz at the Methodist Church in Monona. Jim spent a great deal of time with raising and training quarter horses. He was well-known at the horse shows in the tri-state area, and belonged to the Whistlin' Bit Saddle Club. Jim also played the guitar. He was a member of the Forest Mills United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy; a daughter, Suzanne Wright of Granbury, TX; two grandchildren, Melissa Wright and Colter Wright; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Jesse Ruckhaber; seven sisters, Emma, Mattie Thornton, Margaret Stanfield, Delaney Bloxham, Rosetta Wickham, Hazel Decker, and Nellie Egbert; and five brothers, Abbot, Tom, Bill, Bob, Albert ("Ole").
