Elizabeth Cole was born at Connellsville, Pa., September 29, 1804. In 1829 she married William Shuff who survives her. After some time they moved to what is now West Virginia and remained there till 1852 when they came to Iowa, settling near Rossville, where they have since resided. She was the mother of nine children, three of whom survive her. For more than sixty years she has been a member of the Methodist church, first joining in West Va., and then uniting with the church at Rossville, when she came west. She was a faithful wife and mother, always giving her first thought to her home. She died ready and waiting to go, gladly obeying the summons to the better land. The funeral services were conducted at the house Friday last at 10am., by Rev. W.C. Macurdy, pastor of the Waukon M. E. Church, and she was buried in the cemetery near Rossville.
