Kenneth Hamm

Kenneth E. Hamm, 72, of Ottumwa, and formerly of Rose Hill, entered into eternal rest, Sunday, July 27, 2008 at his home in Ottumwa. Funeral services will be at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon Saturday, August 2, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Verdon Swenson officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Sixteen Cemetery, rural Monona. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Kenneth E. Hamm was born June 29, 1936 in Allamakee County, the son of Harmon and Pearl Jones Hamm. He graduated from the Waterville High School in Waterville with the class of 1954. Following high school, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army. Following his discharge, he worked at John Deere Tractor Works in Dubuque for 10 years. June 18, 1960 he was united in marriage to Betty Smith at Monona. He then farmed for a short time in Allamakee County, and then worked as a diesel mechanic, a skill he learned in the military. Early in his career, he worked for Sid Miller Trucking in Dubuque, and then Katuin Brothers, and lastly he opened a mechanic shop for Bob Lynn at Lynn's Transportation in Oskaloosa, and retired from Lynn's in 1998. In retirement, he worked as a security guard at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he always dreamed of starting a shop to make pack saddles. He was a member of the Forest Mills United Methodist Church, rural Postville, and also attended Lacey United Methodist Church for many years. He served as a trustee for the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the North America Hunting Club, the Ruritan Club, Men's Church Club and the National Rifle Association.

His family includes his wife of over 48 years, Betty Hamm of Ottumwa; a daughter, Wanda Hamm, of Fremont; a son, Wade (Teri) Hamm of Donnelson; eight grandchildren, Justin, Brandon and Tabetha Kramer and Lindsey, Derek, David, Rachel and Amber Hamm; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Paige, Libby, Trenton, Madison, and Trinity; his step-mother, Gertrude Hamm, of Waukon; and a brother, Keith (Pat) Hamm of Dubuque.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Warren, and a brother, Steve Hamm.

Casketbearers will be Justin and Brandon Kramer, Derek and David Hamm, Jerry Smith, George Lee, Everett and Dayton Jones. Honory casketbearers are Milan and Tim Marshall, Carl, Bill and Leon Jones, Lonnie and Steve Hamm, Steve Whaley and Duane Kramer.
