Thomas Bakewell, Prominent Local Man Dies, Jan. 10
Thomas Bakewell, 94, one of northeastern Iowa's most prominent residents, because of his civic accomplishments and business interests, died suddenly Thursday afternoon from a heart attack. His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs.Warren Hayes, he having returned there a few days previous, apparently in his usual good health, from spending the summer with his daughters at Emmettsburg, Ia., and Madison, S. D., which has been his custom in late years.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Martin's funeral home, conducted by Rev. A. H. Grossheim, Walter Hagen sang “The Lord’s Prayer”. Burial was in the family lot in the Lansing cemetery with the following pallbearers: E. A. Leschensky, C.H Megorden, Frank Teeling, Ed Hagensack, Fred Intlekofer, and Unk Eaton.
