OREGON - Miriam E. Christensen, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007. She was born on June 25, 1910, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Fredrick and Anna (Sieg) Brandsmeier. After graduating from high school in 1927, Miriam moved to Madison, where she worked as a housekeeper and nanny for the founder of Dean Clinic and also became a licensed beautician. Miriam was united in marriage to Alvin Christensen on Nov. 8, 1941. Together they farmed and raised their children on the Christensen family homestead, just outside of Oregon. Miriam had an adventuresome spirit, always willing to try something new. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, traveling, was an exercise fanatic and loved being around people. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook, a wise, patient and graceful mother. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Christensen; daughters, Sylvia (Vern) Lowell and Janice (Henry) Carstens; son, Jon (Pat) Christensen; grandsons, H. Chad and Casey Q. Carstens; granddaughters, Heather and Heidi Christensen; sister, Laura (Ted) Starker; sister-in-law, Clarice Christensen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin, in 1972; son, Darell; sisters, Elvira Brandsmeier and Esther Peck; and brother, Clarence Brandsmeier. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, with the Rev. Jason Hill presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Memorials will be donated in her name to the Oregon Senior Center, where she spent many enjoyable hours.
