Anna Mae Waters, 83, of Caledonia, Minnesota, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia.
She was born October 30, 1924 in Hanover Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, to David and Mary (Moller) Burroughs. She attended grade school in Dorchester, Iowa, and graduated from high school in Waukon, Iowa. Anna Mae got her teaching certificate in Dubuque, Iowa, and she taught for seven years in various country schools in Allamakee County. On November 8, 1948 she married James Waters in Hanover. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1998.
Anna Mae and Jim farmed until 1968 and then they moved to Caledonia and purchased Jim’s Bar and operated it for 3 years. They purchased Water’s Restaurant, Hotel, Bar and Bowling Alley in 1971 and operated the business until their retirement in 1986. They moved to Houston, Minnesota, and Anna Mae worked at the Village Inn there. She returned to Caledonia after Jim’s death. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
She is survived by her five children, John (Shelby) Waters, Viroqua, Wisconsin; Marilyn (Darrell) Rose and Lorna (Paul) Augedahl, both of Caledonia; Mary (Tim) Serres, Brownsville, Minnesota; and Barb (Collin) Johnson, St. Charles, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Della (Jerry) Just, Clarksfield, Minnesota; a brother, Roland (Vera) Burroughs, Waukon, and a sister in law, Alice Burroughs, Champagne, Illinois.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard, Jerome, Alfred, Garland, and Delbert Burroughs, and two sisters, Mary Helgeson and Florence Radloff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Houston. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s School Auditorium, Caledonia, where a Catholic Daughter rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
