Nadine Smerud

Nadine Sue (Jones) Smerud, 59, of Tomball, TX passed away at her home Thursday, February 21 after a courageous fight against Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia (leukemia). The celebration of her life begins Wednesday, February 27 with the wake scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home in Rochester, MN. Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 28 at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rochester, MN, with viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. and service beginning at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Wayne Morrison. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, MN next to her father.

Nadine was born January 11, 1949 in Rochester, MN to Kenneth ("Jake") and Dorothy (Hayden) Jones. During the course of her life she was blessed with a loving husband, David, two awesome children, Melissa (33) and Jeff (31), and two adoring grandchildren, Justin (14) and Brittany (10).

Nadine was very close to God and all of her actions clearly reflected that relationship with Him. She had a way of impacting every person she ever met with her soft-spoken voice and uplifting personality. She loved spending time with family and friends and shared a very special bond with her grandchildren. She had many talents including teaching (fifth grade being her favorite), playing the piano and organ, singing, and embroidery.

She was very active in her church community, and despite her terminal illness, was influential in starting a children's choir and an instrumental ensemble at North Houston Seventh Day Adventist Church. She volunteered countless hours organizing the Military Family Readiness Group which supported family members of deployed soldiers.

She is survived by her husband, David of Tomball, TX; her mother, Dorothy Jones of Rochester, MN; two children, Melissa (Sean) Bauckham of Buffalo Lake, MN and Jeffrey (Sheila) Naustdal of Litchfield, MN; two grandchildren, Justin Bauckham and Brittany Jones of Buffalo Lake, MN; three brothers, Stan (Deanna) Jones of Sioux City, Ron Jones of Keene, TX, and Kenneth (Linda) Jones of Hope, MN; and her extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth ("Jake") Jones.

Casketbearers are Ron Jones, Jon Jones, Sean Lindahl, Ronald Smerud, Gordy Smerud, and Dean Smerud. Honorary casketbearers are Justin Bauckham and Brittany Jones.

Nadine is now at peace and we all look forward to seeing her in Heaven.
