From the LaCrosse Tribune, LaCrosse, Wisconsin of March 20, 1958:
"Lansing, Iowa (Special) - Edward Fitzgerald,74, retired construction worker, died suddenly Wednesday morning of a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends were asked to call Friday evening at the Burke Funeral Home.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born near Wexford, the son of Mr. And Mrs. Edward Fitzgerald, December 2, 1883. He married Katherine Whalen Nov. 24, 1914.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, John and Carl, both of Lansing; three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Heinz, Jackson, Mich., Mrs Frank (Katherine) Marley and Mrs. Hannah Crowe, rurual Lansing; and one brother, Theodore, Chicago."
(Note from submitter who is grandaughter: There are several errors in this obituary. Katherine Marley and Hannah Crowe were sisters, not daughters; his brother was named Timothy not Theodore but was known as 'Tade' which may have led to the naming error. )
Obituary from local paper - undated but probably the Allamakee Journal:
"Edward Fitzgerald Died Last Wednesday A.M.Funeral services for Edward Fitzgerald, 74, were held from Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing Saturday morning at nine o'clock with Assistant Father John Schmidt offering the Mass of Requiem and saying the final prayers at the graveside at Gethsemane Cemetery where burial was made. Gene Brennan, Frank and Joe Wagner, Joe Whalen, Joe Delaney and Urban Hawes served as pall bearers. Mr. Fitzgerald passed away last Wednesday in the ambulance while enroute to the hospital after suffering a heart attack early that morning. He has been in failing health with asthma and heart condition for more than the past year and his sudden death came as a shock to family and friends.
He was born December 2, 1883 in Lafayette township, a son of Mary Osborne and Edward Fitzgerald. He was educated in the rural schools of the area and on November 24, 1914 was married to Katherine Whalen at Wexford. Together with his brother Theodore they farmed hereabouts for 7 years before moving to Bird Island, Minn. where they bought a section of land and farmed until returninig to Allamakee more than twenty years ago farming a short time on the Will Whalen place in Laaeyette. Since that time they have made Lansing their home and in recent years Mr. Fitzgerald has been employed by his sons in the roofing business. He was an industrious and conscientious worker, a kind and accomodating neighbor and friend with many acquaintances who will be sorry to learn of his death.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Carl and John, of Lansing; one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Hein, Jackson, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Marley, of Wexofrd and Mrs. Hannah Crowe, of Harpers Ferry and one brother Theodore, of Chicago; and nine grandchildren. Among the out of county relatives and friends who were in attendance at the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Heins and two children of Jackson, Mich.; Mr. Theodore Fitzgerald and daughter and family of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. William Bohrer, Milwaukee, Wisc.; and Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Whalen, Florence, Minn."
