Amanda M. Stock, 97, of Waukon died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville, with Pastor Lynne Hanna officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Amanda Marie Stock was born October 5, 1910, the daughter of John and Lena (Debner) Nagel on their farm in Ludlow Township, rural Waukon. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and attended rural Ludlow #6 country school. She worked on her parents' farm growing up and also worked for several neighbors doing housework and farm work.
January 29, 1931 she married Martin Edwin Stock at her parents' home in Ludlow Township. They farmed together in the Ludlow Township until 1969 before moving to Waukon.
Amanda was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, its ladies groups and sang in the choir. She also taught Sunday School for many years. Amanda enjoyed attending house and barn dances. She also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, baking, especially pies, and spending time with family and friends. Some of Amanda's favorite times were spent babysitting for her great-grandchildren, which she did for several years.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Edgar) Brainard, of Waukon; and her three grandchildren, Lisa (Christian) Cook, Mark (Terry) Brainard and Matthew (Sandi) Brainard; and five great-grandchildren, Bazil Brainard, Elissa Cook, Hope Brainard, Amanda Cook and Blake Brainard. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin, who died in 1989; two sisters, Alvina Klocke and Luella Stock; and a brother, Edward Nagel.
Honorary casketbearers were her great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were Don Nagel, Roger Stock, Bob Sivesind, Dale Kiesau, Robert Thompson and Aaron Whittle.
