Marjorie Rose
Marjorie Rose, daughter of Sherman and Alice (Calvert) Stubbs, was born on July 21, 1901 at Bradshaw, Neb. She died on Saturday, May 9, 1992 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. She was 90.
She graduated from Washington High School in 1919, and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids. During her early years she was employed as a milliner and in a local department store. Later she cashiered in the Huddle Coffee Shop in the Jefferson Hotel in Iowa City. She was also employed in the Dietary Department of the Hill Crest Dormitory at the University of Iowa.
On June 10, 1926 she married Ivan G. Rose at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Iowa City all their life, and had five children. In 1991 she came to Postville to live with her daughters, and later became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan; three grandchildren, James and Regina Duffy and Shannon Rose; and a sister, Madelle.
Surviving are her children, James Rose of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Marilyn and her husband, Sam Curnow, Patricia and her husband, Peter Duffy, all of Postville, Virginia and her husband, Jerome Jennings of Iowa City, and David Rose and his wife, Wilma of Brighton, Colo; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rose was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City and the Women of ELCA.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12, 1992 at 2 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City, the Rev. Roy Nielsen officiated. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
