Paul Cavanaugh

Paul Cavanaugh, age 78, of Waukon died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, January 25 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Paint Rock Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Paul was born August 12, 1929 in Cedar Rapids to Thomas and Alberta (Melavin) Cavanaugh. He graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1947 and served in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps. He then went back to farming and later started his own fertilizer business.

Paul was a member of the Flying Club and took much pleasure in flying, even performing some charter flights. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Paul had a real spirit of joy in his friendships and his home at the Senior Center in Waukon. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by four sisters, Irene O'Brien, Betty Ohm, Therese Styers and Cecilia Horn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Alberta Cavanaugh; and his siblings, Mike Cavanaugh, Sister Jean Marie, Pat Delphey, Fr. Joseph Cavanaugh, Jean Cavanaugh and Maureen Brown.

Casketbearers were Bill Byrnes, Norman Delphey, Fred Delphey, Paul Farley, Phillip Liddiard and Earl Schulte.
