Mrs. Dell Rose Services Held
Funeral services for Mrs. Dell Rose, 77 years, were held Sat. afternoon, May 16 at 2:00 in the Volney Methodist Church with Rev. Paul V. Clements officiating. The body lay in state at the church from 1:00 in the afternoon until the time of the services. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Rose died Thursday morning, May 14th about 6:00 at the Postville Hospital.
As Sarah Anna, she was born the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Newcomb) Cowell in Allamakee County, June 27, 1886. Following graduation she taught school. She was married to Dell Rose on April 25th, 1906 in Waukon. They farmed in the vicinity for many years.
Mrs. Rose was a member of the Volney Methodist Church and the Woman's Society of Christian Service.
Preceding her in death are the following children: Raymond, Jimmie, Delores and Bernita and a grandson, Mark Garms.
Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Bernice) Schlitter of Monona, Mrs. Robert (Laurene) Garms of Dubuque and Mrs. Randy (Carole) Huseman of Pacifica, Calif.; four sons, Joe of Monona, Harold of Luana, Delbert of Caledonia, Minn. and Robert of Dubuque; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Klees, Mrs. Ethel Kalowinski, and Mrs. Sybil Seitz; three brothers, Joe, Harley and Dave Cowell; 24 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were William and George Smith, John Carter, Matt Freilinger, Judson Campbell and Forrest Henderson.
