--------------------------------------------------Two area women died in a head on collision Friday afternoon, Dec. 14. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Gina Imoehl, 40, of Ossian was driving north on Hwy 52 near Middle Calmar Road, when she crossed the center line with her 2001 Oldsmobile Alero.
The State Patrol reports Imoehl's car struck a 2001 Chrysler driven by Shiloh Deal, 26, of Calmar. Both vehicles came to rest in the south ditch. Passers-by coming across the scene broke out a back window in the vehicle to help extricate the child from the car, as it was initially in flames. Both drivers and a passenger in Deal's car, three year old Gabriel Julia Deal-Burch, were taken by ambulance to Winneshiek Memorial hospital. Neither driver survived.
Officials closed the road for several hours, directing traffic around the scene. The Winneshiek County Sheriff's office was assisted by Decorah Police, Calmar Fire, Winneshiek Memorial Hospital Ambulance and Ossian Ambulance.
