Ivan Stevenson

Ivan Stevenson, 82, of rural Ferryville, WI passed away peacefully November 18, 2007 at the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove, WI. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 21 at Utica Lutheran Church. Pastor Pam Lojewski will officiate. Burial will follow in the Utica Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home of Gays Mills, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born the son of Robert and Bertha (Helgerson) Stevenson April 17, 1925 in the Towerville, WI area, where he spent his childhood. Ivan and his parents moved to Buck Creek Ridge of Ferryville, WI.

On March 3, 1948 he was married to Evelyn Warren from Retreat, WI at the Kickapoo Parsonage by Pastor Finstade. Ivan and his brother, Adolph, farmed together up until 1987, when he retired and moved down in the valley of Buck Creek. Ivan also hauled can milk for Don Heiar for 14 years for all the local farms near Ferryville, WI while they were farming.

After retirement, he worked for 18 years at the Red Barn Resort in Lansing for his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Dennis Troendle. He also was the custodian for Utica Lutheran Church for 12 years. Ivan enjoyed bowling, deer hunting, dancing, playing cards, and visiting with everyone.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Evelyn; their children, Wyman (Linda) of Onalaska, WI, Terry (Marcia) of Ferryville, WI, Brian (Dawn) of Prairie du Chien, WI, and Debra (Dennis) Troendle of Lansing; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his brother, Adolph, of Ferryville, WI; and three sisters, Edith Emerson of Viroqua, WI, Joyce (Norm) Fryseth of Ferryville, WI, and Bernilda McDowell of Viroqua, WI. Ivan will be joining his parents, Robert and Bertha Stevenson, who preceded him in death.
