Marie Vaaler, the former Marie Walsh, of La Crosse, WI passed away Thursday, November 1, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, November 6 at Blessed Sacrament Church in La Crosse, WI, with Msgr. Robert Humdt and Rev. Michael Gorman officiating. Burial took place in Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse.
Pallbearers were Dan Vaaler, Aaron Vaaler, Todd Zapzake, Matt Celska, David Vaaler, Andrew Vaaler, Bob Hall and Brad Mohns. Several Waukon, Harpers Ferry, New Albin and Lansing area residents attended the wake or funeral.
Marie was born November 11, 1918, the daughter of Joe and Tillie (Waldron) Walsh of Waukon. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's, Lycurgus and raised on the home farm in French Creek township.
Marie was a very joyful person, greeting everyone with her beautiful smile. She was faithful to her family and her church and was very proud of her Irish heritage.
Marie is survived by three sisters, Lorraine Mann, Leanne O'Malley and Lois Hansen; three children and several grandchildren, of which she was very proud. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; three sisters, Lucille Garvik, Dorothy Anfenson and Margaret Walsh; and three brothers, Francis, Kenny and Jack Walsh.
