John Green

Funeral services for John Green were held Monday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. Special music was provided by Arthur and Clarence Amundson, accompanied by Beverly Bacon, organist. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

John Edgar Green, son of Ralph and Ethel (Meier) Green, was born Sept. 5, 1933 in Winneshiek County, near Ossian, IA. He died Friday Jan. 25, 1991 in University of Iowa Hospitals at Iowa City.

He was baptized May 8, 1949. He attended the Frankville Township School, the Minert School and was graduated from Postville High School in 1953.

John had sung in the Presbyterian Church choir, played the tuba in the High School Band, was a member of the FFA and participated in a 4-H Club. He had been a member of the Postville Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years. In 1972 he obtained his private pilot license.

On October 16, 1955 he married Ruth Panncke at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The couple had two daughters. He was employed by Cook's Shell Service and drove the school bus during the year and for summer activities. He had also been employed by John Deere dealers, working for Reinhardt Implement, Hansmeier Implement and finally, he was employed by Clermont Implement from 1962 to the present.

He is preceded in death by his father Ralph, a brother Wayne, and a nephew, Allan Hagemeier.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, 2 daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Kevin Sutton), Mason City and Wanda (Mrs. Gene Schnuelle), Postville, his mother, Ethel Green, Postville; 2 grandchildren, Amy Green and Christopher Schnuelle and 2 sisters, Eileen Bentley, Solon, IA and JoAnn Hagemeier, Clinton, Ia.

Casket Bearers: Fred Wilker, Brad Wilker, Don Meyer, Gerald "Pete" Meyer, Bill Panncke, Jerald Martins, Marlen Schutte.
