Bessie Kumpf, 84, Dorchester, Iowa, died Friday, March 25, 1988, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa.

She was born March 4, 1904, in Dorchester to Fred and Elizabeth (Hahn) Smith.

She married Floyd Kumpf September 21, 1923, in Dorchester. He died December 31, 1963.

She owned and operated the Kumpf Grocery Store in Dorchester with her husband for many years.

Survivors are two sons, Nathan and Neil of Dorchester; three daughters, Dorine Muller and Audrey Rogan, both of Rockford, Illinois; and Sheilah Nelson of Dorchester; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mae Haugstad of Caledonia, Minnesota; and a brother, Merle Smith of Caledonia.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Dorchester. Burial will be in Dorchester Methodist Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Martin's Funeral Home in Waukon.
