CHARLES W. DEREMO
    Funeral services were held Mon-
day afternoon for Charles W. De-
remo, who died at the home of
of his son Ralph Deremo, on Friday
morning, Feburary 13, after an ex-
tended illness of near;y four
years. Services were conducted by
Rev. C.A.Underwood, pastor of
the Christian church at the
funeral home. Mrs. L.E. Havens
and Mrs. Chas. McCallister sang
"The Old Rugged Cross" and
"Abide With Me" accompanied by
Wilma Hurst on the piano. Pall-
bearers were Fred Fleming, Chas.
G. Persinger, Silas Stansel, Fred
Hamm, John Lumbaugh and Hen-
ry Phillips.
    Charles W. Deremo was the son
of Dr. and Mrs. O. C. Deremo and
was born in New York state.,
March 28,1844 and attained the
age of 86 years, 10 months and 15
days. He was the oldest of a fam-
ily of ten children, three brothers
and two sisters still living.Mr.
Deremo came with his parents to
Allamakee county, Iowa, when he
was a small child. Here he was
educated and taught in the public
schools, teaching one year in Ar-
kansas. In 1872 he was united in
marriage to Malissa Dubay. In
1880, in a covered wagon, they
came to Sac county where they
resided until death took them.
To this union was born nine chil-
dren, two having proceeded their
father in death. His wife also
preceeded him in death, passing
away in 1898. The seven living
children who mourn the passing
of their aged father are: Roy of
Audubon, Charles of Spencer;
Minnie ( Mrs. Fred Kruger) of Bel-
mond; Roxie (Mrs. E. J. Wil-
liams, Edna ( Mrs. P. J.O'Toole),
Arley and Ralph of Sac City. He
also leaves to mourn his passing,
21 grandchildren and many other relatives
and friends.
    Although his right side was
paralyzed for nerarly four years,
he was most patient sufferer
and enjoyed sitting in his wheel
chair looking out the window and
watching all that went on about
him. Our community bids farewell
and God's blessings to another
who in the hardships of pioneer
life, laid the foundations for our
great commonwealth.
