Emma Brown

Funeral services for Emma Brown were held Monday, March 3, 1986, at St. Paul Lutheran church in Postville, Iowa, Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.

Emma (Bjergum) Brown was born to Jens and Martha (Omodt) Bjergum on December 17, 1905, at Black Hammer, MN. She passed away February 27, 1986 at North Gate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa.

Emma lived in Black Hammer, MN, where she attended a rural school and the Spring Grove High School. She was employed in the telephone office in Spring Grove.

On November 27, 1927, she was united in marriage with Octave L. Brown at the Black Hammer Lutheran Church. They farmed in the area until 1939 when they began a nursery business. In February, 1944, they moved to Postville and started the Northern Iowa Nursery there.

She is preceded in death by her husband who died June, 1949. Emma continued to operate the nursery business for several years.

Surviving include five daughters, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Janett, Dennison, Iowa; Mrs. Cloy (Lorraine) Schultz Jr. of Postville, IA; Beverly Sander, Ozotia, FL; Mrs. Thomas (Janice) Schultz, Watertown, NY and Mrs. Anthony (Sharon) Kainauskas of Fairfield, IA; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, one brother, Otto Bjergum, Spring Grove, MN and 2 sisters, Mrs. Henry (Myrtle) Vatland, LaCrosse, WI and Borghild Benson, Mabel, MN.

Casket bearers were Blaine Schultz, Lynn Sander, David Janett, James Janett, Dan Sander, Trent Wright, James Hager, Michael Wilson and Drew Deering.
