Arthur Hesse

Funeral services for Arthur W. Hesse were held Monday, Aug. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. The Rev. Dennis E. Morey officiated. The Schutte Funeral service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Arthur William Hesse, son of August and Amy Hesse, was born Aug. 1, 1903 in Allamakee County, near Waukon, Iowa. He passed away Aug. 13 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

He was baptized at the Zalmona Presbyterian Church and attended the rural schools in Allamakee County. On May 18, 1922 he was married to Esther Bechtell [Bechtel]. To this union five children were born. They farmed in Ludlow Township and then they moved to Postville where he was a section hand for the railroad.

He is preceded in death by a son, Donald, a brother, Simon, a sister, Lydia Kruger, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and sons-in-law, Meder Peterson and John Van Wey.

Surviving are his wife, Esther, four daughters, Mrs. Irma Van Wey of Decorah, Mrs. LaVerne (Delores) Wedo of Postville, Mrs. Norman (Vivian) Peterson of St. Olaf, Mrs. Edward (Jane) Boese of Davenport, 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, a brother Paul Hesse of Waukon and a sister, Edna Hilmer of Marion, Iowa.

He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Postville.
