John O'Brien, Former Well-Driller was Waukon's oldest Resident at 95
John O'Brien , 95, Waukon's oldest resident, died Friday at the home of his son Arthur -
Mr. O'Brien was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael O'Brien and was born at Galena, Ill., Novenber 15
1852. When three years of age he came with his parents to French Creek township. At the age of 18 he went to St. Croix county, Wisconson,and was married to Jane Daley at Hammon, Wis. She proceded him in death over 40 years ago. Mr. O'Brien spent some time in Montana and the past 15 years has made his home with his son here in Waukon.Thirteen Children
Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien were the parents of 13 children, eight of whom are living. they are John and Charles of Berkley, California, Mrs. May McGregor, Chicago, Mrs. Jerome Sauber(Margaret) and William of Minneapolis, Joseph, St. Paul and Arthur, Waukon, 13 grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. A son James was killed in World War I -Mr. O'Brien was employed as a well driller for 65 years and was the surviving member of his family -
Funeral Monday
The body was at Martin's funeral home until Monday morning when services were held at St. Patrick's church conducted by Fr. E.J. McDonald.
Burial followed in St. Mary's cemetary, Lycurgus, beside his father and mother.Allamakee County Historical Society
