Esther Spinner

Esther Mae Spinner, age 89, of Lansing died Thursday morning, April 26, 2007 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 30 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. Daniel Knipper and Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg co-celebrating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing.

Esther was born in Prairie du Chien, WI June 1, 1917 to Sherman and Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) Smith. She graduated as Valedictorian from Immaculate Conception High School in 1935.

Esther married Vincent Spinner in 1940 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing. She was an avid baseball fan and frequently took her sons to Milwaukee to watch the Milwaukee Braves baseball team. She worked for various people as a housekeeper, the Lansing Co., and sold Avon products. She was a longtime member of the church choir and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons, Tom Spinner of Lansing and Mike (Renee) Spinner of Brownsville, MN; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent Spinner August 2, 1986; a daughter Joan Spinner in 1981; a brother Robert 'Bud' Smith; and a sister Ferne Brandt.
