Services were held for Mrs. Alfreda Smith, 89, on Monday, July 17th at Martin Funeral Home. She died Saturday, July 15, 1978, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon where she had been a resident for several years. The Reverend William Tjaden offi­ciated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers with burial in Ever­green Cemetery, Postville.

She was born September 30, 1888 in Post Township, Allama­kee County to Jacob and Alice Lawson Ewing. She married Ste­phen Smith on October 23, 1904 in Tesca, Oklahoma. He died in 1954.

She is survived by two sons, Leonard and Ivan, both of rural Postville; three daughters, Mrs. Cora Decker of Waukon; Mrs. Sylbert Christofferson of Calmar; and Mrs. Paul (Alice) Kunkat of Harmony, Minnesota; twenty-seven gradchildren; se­venty-one great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great-grand­children.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, George and Arthur; a daughter, Goldie; five brothers; and four sisters.

Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
