Edgar J. Wuennecke, 78, of New Albin died Monday, April 16, 2007 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services were held Friday, April 20 at St. Peter's Church, New Albin, with Rev. William J. Reese, Ph.D. officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the New Albin VFW Post #5603. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, MN was in charge of arrangements.
Edgar was born October 14, 1928 in New Albin to John and Ella (Wiemerslage) Wuennecke. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. October 1, 1955, he married Shirley Meyer at St. Peter's Church in New Albin. Together they owned and operated the City Meat Market in New Albin from 1957 until health problems kept them from the store. Edgar enjoyed camping, bowling, fishing, and playing cards with his family and friends. He was an active member of St. Peter's Church in New Albin and a member of the Kenneth Casey VFW Post #5603 of New Albin. Edgar will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of over 51 years, Shirley; a daughter, Angie (David) Strong; and a son, Alan (Kelley) Wuennecke, all of New Albin; five grandchildren, Erin (Jon) Johnson, Jason (Stacie) Strong, James Strong, and Keri Strong, all of New Albin, and Joshua Dreps of Charlotte, MI; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Armin (Dorothy) Wuennecke of Cedar Rapids. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents.
