Wilbur Wilkins
Wilbur H. Wilkins, 100, of Lansing, formerly of Decorah and New Albin, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing. Funeral services were held Monday, April 23 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Pastor Douglas Mathison officiating. Burial was held in Council Hill Cemetery in rural Monona.
Wilbur Henry Wilkins was born December 28, 1906 in rural Monona, the son of Thomas Edward and Laura Hannah (Kaiser) Wilkins. He attended "Irish Ridge" country school, rural Monona. Wilbur farmed in Clayton County for several years.
February 20, 1927 he married Nina Cahoon. She died in 1947. February 7, 1949 he married Marian Lovstuen. They farmed in the Glenwood area in rural Decorah for 34 years. They were divorced in 1979. Wilbur retired in 1978, when he moved to New Albin.
September 4, 1980 he married Sarah (Conway) Wargin in Waukon. He has been a resident at Thornton Manor Care Center since 2003. Wilbur was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. Wilbur also traveled through out the United States and the world.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah of Lansing; eight sons, Donald (Marge) of Redding, CA, Eldean of Decorah, Richard (Wilma) of Karlisruhe, Germany, Kenneth (JoAnn) of Tucson, AZ, Loren of Decorah, Kurt (Lucy) of Ray, MN, Keith of Tucson, AZ, and Niles (Denise) of Ray, MN; seven daughters, Lorraine Sacquitne of Decorah, Marjorie O'Hare of St. Joseph, MO, Ann (Orvin) Hotvedt of Decorah, Lorna (Chuck) Duvel of Postville, Ruth Ann (Leo) Walleser of Menomonie, WI, Patricia McDermott of Decorah, and Marcella (Gerald) Berg of Calmar; 49 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth (Delores) of Viroqua, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nina; two sons, Robert and an infant son; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lee, Wayne, Ray and Floyd; and four sisters, Marcella Wilkins, Iowa Schierholz, Violet Adney and Charlotte Wagner.
Casketbearers were Wilbur's sons.
